On Monday's "The Bachelorette" Jillian Harris eliminated Reid, a 30-year-old real estate agent from Philadelphia. That leaves Kiptyn, a 31-year-old California business developer and Ed, a 29-year-old technology consultant from Chicago as the final two guys.
"I just worry that we're at different places in our lives," Jillian, 29, told Reid.
"I should have opened up sooner... It's a shame," Reid said. He seemed unable to verbally communicate his feelings, but the pair shared a long hug. He quietly muttered something before pulling away and saying, "I don't know what to say."
"Say goodbye," a sobbing Jillian replied.
Never miss a local story.
In the limo, Reid found his voice. "I wish I could have opened up to her the way I should have... I definitely can say that I was falling in love with her. I don't even think she knows that... I really think the whole thing was my fault."
"If I could reverse things, I would," Reid said.
Before making her final decision at the rose ceremony, Jillian asked Ed for a private chat. She said their fantasy date didn't go as she expected. "I'm absolutely crazy about you," Ed said as he asked for another chance. He got it.
Here's a recap of the show:
Before the rose ceremony, Jillian listened to a video message from each guy.
"Let's light this world on fire," Kiptyn said.
"Spending the night in the fantasy suite with you was one of the best nights of my life," Reid said.
"The time that I have spent with you — and the time that I have spent away from you — has truly made me change my perspective on life and be a better man," Ed said. "I love you."
On her date with Ed, he said he missed Jillian while they were apart. "I've been thinking about you every day. Wondering what you've been doing," Ed said. "Not thinking about work?" Jillian questioned. Ed previously left the show to return to work. He came back the following week, but he missed the chance to take Jillian to his hometown to meet his family.
The couple went on a catamaran ride. "It felt like we were the only people in the world," Ed said when they went for an ocean swim. Then he announced they wouldn't be alone for long. His parents had come to Hawaii to meet Jillian.
While Ed's mom and Jillian had a one-on-one chat, Ed's dad asked Ed "what the hell are we doing here? What's going on?" Ed tried to convince his dad that this was more than a crush. "I swear that I would get engaged if she picked me," Ed promised.
In the fantasy suite that night, Jillian wondered if Ed was going to be able to balance work and love in the future. "I'm absolutely falling in love with you, and I don't care about anything else right now. And I just, I've never felt this way," Ed said.
Ed carried Jillian to the bed. Jillian changed clothes. The lights dimmed. The cameras faded to an exterior shot of the hotel. A bright light came on. The cameras were back in the hotel room. Jillian was rubbing Ed's back. "Our fantasy date was not exactly like we'd planned... that love was there... but that, like, oh my god, I want my hands to be all over you, that wasn't there," Jillian said. "That feeling that I want to be there isn't there."
"I was very nervous and it just didn't happen," Ed said.
Later, before the rose ceremony, Jillian acknowledged that both were tired and stressed. "We both just sort of wanted to fall asleep and that confused me." Jillian confessed that she wasn't sure she wanted to take a gamble on physical intimacy.
Before her date with Reid, Jillian said she needed him to communicate his feelings. "She's everything I could imagine in a wife," Reid said.
The couple went on a helicopter ride. Reid's first. The pilot was an ordained minister. Hint. Hint. Jillian joked about it. Reid looked a little scared. Back on the ground, Jillian questioned his fear at the thought of marriage. She told him to think about what he was ready for. "I want to give him as much time as humanely possible, to come up with an answer that he's going to be happy with and that I'm going to be happy with. But time is going to run out eventually," Jillian said.
A romantic dinner on the beach was just what Jillian thought would help Reid express his feelings. At the end, if he received the final rose, would Reid propose? "Maybe. Possibly," he said.
"I'm definitely ready... why is this so hard for me?" Reid wondered. When the fantasy suite card was presented, Jillian was torn. "I'm worried about all the things that we need to cover," she said. "We can cover them tonight," Reid said. "Promise?" she asked. He did. They spent the evening cuddling on the couch and giggling in the hot tub.
"It's so hard to throw out the L-word," Reid told Jillian. "I really do think I'm falling in love with her," he told the cameras.
Jillian's date with Kiptyn was full of laughter on an ambitious ropes course. Jillian was worried that Kiptyn would be too perfect and race through the course, but he didn't. He joked about his own clumsiness and encouraged Jillian when she was scared.
"He helped me feel better about myself," Jillian said.
Over dinner Jillian once again asked Kiptyn to name his flaws. He once again evaded the serious question. "Flamenco dancing, big flaw," Kiptyn joked. The pair attempted the dance on last week's show in Spain. It wasn't pretty, but hardly the flaw Jillian was asking about.
Kiptyn said in the past he was too quick to end a relationship when something went wrong. His honesty seemed to please Jillian who invited Kiptyn to share the fantasy suite with her that night.
