Of the seven middle schools in the entire country receiving a national award for their improvements in reading, math and science, three are located in Alabama.
Alabama Gov. Bob Riley honored those schools this week.
Representatives from Hokes Bluff Middle School in Etowah County, Fairview Middle School in Cullman County and Athens Middle School in Athens attended a celebration Monday in Mongtgomery.
The school's received the Southern Regional Education Board's "Making Middle Grades Work Gold Award for Improved Achievement."
