Three men will face murder charges in Columbus Recorder's Court this morning after a man was killed during an attempted robbery over the weekend.
Carlos Demeturis Brown, Kubiat Ekperikpe and Clarence Demarcus Mahone are charged with the murder of Maurice Hollis. Mahone faces additional charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and theft by receiving stolen property.
The charges stem from a Sunday morning incident at the Greystone at Main Street apartment complex.
Hollis, Brown and Ekperikpe approached Mahone, who lived in the apartments, between 12:30 and 1 a.m. In the stairwell of the building, Hollis was shot once in the left side of his head and was later pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital.
Mahone fled after the shooting, police said, and Brown and Ekperikpe took Hollis to the hospital. All three men were charged with murder, because it is unclear who shot Hollis.
Mahone’s girlfriend, Ashleigh Cleveland, was charged with hindering the apprehension of a criminal, because she initially told police she didn’t know Mahone.
