The Muscogee County School District will host several events in the upcoming weeks for new teachers, parents and students coming to the district this school year.
The district will hold a two-day orientation for new teachers on from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on July 27 and 28 at Midland Middle School on Warm Springs Road.
New employees will have the opportunity to learn about what's expected of them, the culture of the school district, technology in the district, mentor teachers and teacher support specialists.

Several middle and high schools will hold orientation sessions for new students in the coming weeks as well. Schools hosting orientations include:
Shaw High: The Shaw High Raider Prep Camp for incoming ninth graders will be from 9 a.m. to noon, July 27-30, at the school on Raider Way. Students will participate in review sessions and learn about study skills, graduation requirements, promotion policies, Honors and AP classes, student clubs, honors society requirements, community service opportunities, student government, broadcast classes and athletics. Fort Middle: The Fort Middle sixth grade "Sneak-A-Peek" orientation will be at 6:30 p.m. on July 29 at the school on Woodruff Farm Road. Students will get a head start on pre-registration, learn more about the school and take a tour of the building. Veterans Memorial Middle: The Veterans Memorial Middle "Ranger Camp '09" for incoming sixth graders will be from 9 a.m. to noon on July 30 and 31 at the school on Old Guard Road. Students will have the opportunity to become familiar with the building, complete the school registration process and learn more about the school. Parents can also learn more about new immunization requirements for sixth graders during the parent meeting at 9 a.m. on July 31. Eddy Middle: The Eddy Middle "Generals Camp" for incoming sixth graders will be from 9 a.m. to noon on July 30 and 31 at the school on South Lumpkin Road. Students will learn more about Eddy's discipline plan, ways to be organized and middle school survival skills. On the second day, parents may register their students for school. Hardaway High: The Hardaway High Hawk Camp for incoming ninth graders will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 1 at the school on College Drive. Students will participate in small group activities and learn more about the school. Students interested in attending must have registered by July 10. The school district will also hold its third annual Newcomers' Expo from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on August 20 in the Turner Galleria of the Columbus Museum on Wynnton Road. New students, parents and employees will be able to learn more about services and programs in the school district.
