Police didn’t have to look far to find a suspect in the breaking into Buddy Helton Chevron early Friday morning.
When police arrived at the gas station at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and 13th Street, they found a man eating a honey bun and drinking an RC Cola in the lobby. And he was doing this as the burglar alarm was blaring.
Theodroe Majors, 43, is in the Muscogee County Jail facing burglary and tramp charges.
“The officer told me he was just standing there eating,” Helton said. “If he had just asked me, I would have given it to him.”
It took Columbus Police less than five minutes to respond, said Maj. Julius Graham.
The problem was no one was at the station at 3:30 a.m. when Majors is accused of breaking the large glass front door window, then smashing the vending machine.
Helton estimates the damage to his business at about $1,000.
