The Albany Herald in Albany, Ga. reports that resident Cleve Wester, one of the leaders of Auburn's 1957 national championship football team, died Monday.
Wester played offensive tackle on that undefeated team.
The cause of death was given as prostate cancer.
Wester was a big Auburn supporter and played a key role in bringing coach Pat Dye to Auburn.
Never miss a local story.
Earlier this year, the Southwest Georgia Auburn Club honored him with a scholarship in his name.
