Candidates will qualify for the Nov. 3 special election to fill former House District 129 Rep. Vance Smith's unexpired term Monday, Aug. 31, through Wednesday, Sept. 2, the Georgia Secretary of State announced today.
Candidates may qualify 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. that Monday, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, and 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday in the Elections Division of the Office of Secretary of State, 1104 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive SE, in Atlanta. The fee is $400.
Smith, a Republican from Pine Mountain, resigned from his seat to become Georgia's Department of Transportation commissioner. District 129 includes most of Harris County and parts of Muscogee and Troup counties.
Oct. 5 is the deadline to register in the Nov. 3 special election.
