Tremaine Pyatt, accused of fatally shooting a Muscogee County deputy in June 2007, was convicted of murder and aggravated assault on Thursday.
Jurors deliberated for about 2 1/2 hours on the fourth day of trial before reaching their decision in the death of Meredith Rhodes, said Assistant District Attorney Doug Breault. After learning the verdict, Muscogee County Superior Court Judge Doug Pullen sentenced Pyatt, 25, with life in prison.
“They admitted that he had fired the first shot,” Breault said of the defense. “We had him firing the first shot, and we had his motivation.”
