The Rev. Marcus B. Hunter is the new president of the Columbus branch of the NAACP.
Hunter, 35, takes over the position held by Bill Madison who retired in April to spend more time with his ill wife.
In a visit to Columbus Council Tuesday, Hunter said he will represent the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which has almost 300 members.
Hunter, a native of Louisville, Ala., is an associate minister at Greater Beallwood Baptist Church in Columbus. A Phenix City resident, he works as a corrections officer for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice off Chattsworth Road.
