LaGrange police arrested an East Point, Ga. man Tuesday after he allegedly robbed another man at gunpoint.
Jonathan Brinson, 20, is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to a police department press release.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred at around 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
LaGrange police responded to North Barnard Avenue in reference to an armed robbery. They determined that Martavious Sentel Newson, 20, of Hogansville, Ga., was standing by his car talking to a female friend when he was approached by Brinson.
Police said Brinson pulled an black revolver, pointed it at Newson and demanded money. Brinson and Newson got into a physical struggle and Newson was struck several times in the head with the gun.
Brinson took about $300 in cash and a cell phone from Newson, police said. Brinson then fled the scene in Newson's car, an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.
Brinson was apprehended a short time later on Louise Street and the stolen vehicle was recovered. He was booked into the Troup County Jail.
Newson was transported to the West Georgia Medical Center, where he received treatment for his injuries and was released.
