Authorities in LaGrange are searching for a man they believe attacked another man in the street Wednesday night, injuring him so severely that the victim had to transported by helicopter to a trauma center in Atlanta.
The assault occurred close to 8:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Juniper Street. There, LaGrange police found the 30-year-old victim suffering from significant injuries. According to a press release from the LaGrange Police Department, the victim was unresponsive when police arrived on the scene.
Due to his injuries, the victim was air lifted to the Atlanta Medical Center where he was placed in the intensive care unit. His condition as of Wednesday night was critical, the press release said.
The police department's criminal investigation unit was called in to probe this case. Subsequent investigation led authorities to issue a warrant for Joel Blackmon, 25, of 604 South Lee Street, LaGrange for aggravated assault. As of Wednesday night, Blackmon had not been arrested.
