A Columbus man ended up in the hospital after his neighbor allegedly stabbed him in the stomach with a screwdriver early Saturday, police said.
The victim was taken to The Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery for his wounds. Police Sgt. Harvey Hatcher said Saturday afternoon the man was in “critical but stable” condition.
Police were called to the Lake Forest Mobile Home Park at 800 Morris Road around 3:30 a.m. Witnesses told police a woman and the 42-year-old victim, who lives in one of the mobile homes, had been arguing outside.
“He was having an argument with a lady,” Hatcher said. “Another male (got) involved.”
Hatcher said the victim’s neighbor, Charles Rias, and another woman got involved to break up the dispute. As the two women walked off, Rias and the victim then began to argue.
That’s when Rias is accused of pulling out a screwdriver and stabbing the man, Hatcher said.
Rias, 54, was arrested on the scene and charged with aggravated assault. He remains in the Muscogee County Jail and will appear in Columbus Recorder’s Court at 8 a.m. Monday.
