Charles Rias, the man accused of stabbing a neighbor with a screwdriver Saturday, will have to wait until next week for his day in Columbus Recorder’s Court.
Rias was scheduled to appear 8 a.m. today, but the case has been continued until 8 a.m. Sept. 16 because the victim could not be there, said Police Lt. Steve Cox.
The 42-year-old victim had to undergo emergency surgery for his wounds over the weekend. As of Monday afternoon, the man was still at The Medical Center, where he was listed in satisfactory condition, said hospital spokeswoman Marion Scott.
Rias, 54, is charged with aggravated assault in connection with a Lake Forest Mobile Home Park stabbing. Witnesses told police the victim, who lives in one of the mobile homes, had been arguing with a woman outside. Rias and another woman got involved to break up the dispute, and then Rias and the victim began to argue.
Police said Rias is accused of pulling out a screwdriver and stabbing the man during the argument. Rias remains in Muscogee County Jail.
