In celebration of Clean Water Week, the Columbus Water Works again this year is inviting people to tour the sewage treatment plant at 3001 S. Lumpkin Road.
The event will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the South Columbus Water Resource Facility just north of Columbus State University's Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center, which also will participate. Visitors will be shuttled from one site to the other on a city tram, water works officials said.
The celebration includes food, kids' games and door prizes, and plant tours. "Take a plant tour and learn the wastewater process," says a handbill promoting the event.
Administrators with the water authority say customers sometimes question a sewer charge added to their water bills, and touring the sewage treatment plant helps them understand why.
