A third suspect being pursued overnight by Phenix City Police remained on the run Tuesday morning.
The chase began around 7 p.m. Monday when an on-duty investigator saw a vehicle that matched the description of a car involved in a Sunday shooting in Columbus, Phenix City Police said. An investigator and patrol officer chased the vehicle for several minutes to the area of 12th Place and 16th Avenue, where the suspect’s car spun out.
Two Columbus juveniles -- one 15 and the other 17 -- were taken into custody. The youngest one was captured shortly after the car stopped and the older one was found about four hours later in nearby woods.
"We have had a couple of calls this morning telling us where they are," said Assistant Chief Robert Casteel. "But the two we have in custody are not cooperating."
Police say the driver of the car attempted to run over the officers.
“There were some shots fired by the pursuing officers for their own safety,” Lt. Curtis Lewis said. “The vehicle attempted to run both the officers down. It spun out and went into a deep ravine.”
