A local veterinary center is offering vaccines against canine flu for dogs.
The canine influenza vaccine is available at the Animal Health Center at 7870 Veterans Parkway.
The canine flu is not transmittable to humans, but is extremely contagious in dogs. The symptoms of canine flu are congestion, coughing and fever. Pneumonia and other secondary infections are also possible and sometimes lead to death.
Because the flu is so contagious, many animal facilities require that a dog be vaccinated against the disease before it is boarded.
The vaccine is given in two doses, one month apart. The Animal Health Center is offering the shots for $20 each or $35 for the two-shot series, if the fee is paid on the first visit.
To make an appointment, contact the Animal Health Center at 706-323-5218.
