The Columbus Planning Department received awards for the Warm Springs Road Bike/Pedestrian Trail and a Zoning Handbook last week at the 2009 Georgia Planning Association Fall Conference in Athens.
Work is under way for the 11-mile trail which stretches from 14th Street downtown to Psalmond Road in northeast Columbus. Using an old railroad line, the trail is a 12-foot wide asphalt path that can be used by walkers and bike riders. It will be completed next year.
The GPA is made up of more than 1,000 members which include professional planners and planning officials. Awards were the end result of the Planning Department working with Columbus residents.
