A public meeting will be held Thursday at Schomburg Road Baptist Church to consider a truck route system ordinance in Columbus.
Ron Hamlett, manager of Traffic Engineering, said the 6 p.m. meeting will brief residents and businesses on proposed changes to the existing truck route ordinance. It will highlight results from a committee that reviewed truck traffic and streets in the city.
Some routes that are now used by trucks will be banned under an ordinance that will be presented to Columbus Council.
Instead of changing the routes for individual streets, Hamlett said the proposed ordinance will include a package with changes for all designated streets. To get information to truckers and motorists traveling the streets, city officials are talking to mapping companies to note the changes.
The church is located at 7155 Schomburg Road.
