A Columbus man was arrested in Auburn Sunday after he allegedly attempted to steal more than $600 in merchandise from a local business.
According to an Auburn police department news release, John B. Weldon, 48, was charged with second degree theft of property and second degree criminal trespass.
The arrest came after Auburn police officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at a business in the Village Mall on Opelika Road. Weldon was taken into custody after attempting to steal more than $600 in merchandise, police said.
Weldon had been previously banned from the store after a prior theft, police said.
He was transported to the Lee County Detention Center where he is being held without bond due to other unrelated outstanding warrants, police said.
