A 41-year-old Smiths Station, Ala., woman was killed Thursday night in a three-vehicle collision.
Rhonda Renee Howard was traveling east on Lee Road 240 when about 5:15 p.m. she drifted into the westbound lane of traffic, according to Lee County Coroner Bill Harris. The wreck occurred in the 3000 block of Lee Road 240.
According to witness accounts, she first side-swiped a small pickup truck and then struck a full-sized pickup truck head-on.
Harris pronounced Howard dead at the scene at 6:20 p.m.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were not seriously injured.
Howard was wearing her seat belt and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident, Harris said.
Lee Road 240 was closed for about two hours until the road could be cleared. The crash remains under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
