The University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies awarded more than $8,800 in books to elementary and high school library media centers in the Black Belt region of the state through the SLIS Book Bonanza for the Black Belt program.
Six schools were chosen to receive approximately $1,400 for new books.
The schools were Gordo High in Pickens County, ABC Elementary in Wilcox County, J.E. Terry Elementary in Dallas County, Shiloh Elementary in Dallas County, Chisholm Elementary in Montgomery County and Robert C. Hatch High in Perry County.
In November, schools applied for the funding.
