Pam Siddall, former president and publisher of the Ledger-Enquirer, was named president and publisher of The Birmingham News on Monday.
Siddall, a Phenix City native, has been publisher of The Wichita Eagle in Kansas for the past two years.
Siddall succeeds Victor Hanson III, who retired as president and publisher of The News at the end of November.
"I am thrilled to be the next publisher at The Birmingham News, and to be coming back to the great state of Alabama," Siddall said. "The Birmingham News has an outstanding reputation as the leading source of news, information and commentary -- in print and online. I am extremely excited about working with the team to embrace the transformation into a 24/7 multimedia organization.
Siddall, 41, is a summa cum laude graduate of Columbus State University. She began her newspaper career as chief financial officer at the Ledger-Enquirer. She worked as CFO and vice president at The Macon (Ga.) Telegraph, then returned to the Ledger-Enquirer as vice president and general manager. She served as president and publisher of the Columbus paper for more than three years before being named president and publisher of The Wichita Eagle in November of 2007.
