Fathers and volunteers from the House of Mercy will be watching over East Columbus Magnet Academy students walking to and from school after a student was abducted and sexually assaulted by an unidentified man Wednesday morning.
Kevin Scott, principal at East Columbus Magnet Academy, said he asked for help from the community after the incident occurred.
Beginning this afternoon, about five volunteers from House of Mercy, dressed in bright orange vests, will be posted throughout the neighborhoods around the academy on Georgetown Drive to help children as they walk home from school.
Scott said he also heard that several fathers in the neighborhood stood watch outside this morning.
Never miss a local story.
Scott said the volunteers will be in the neighborhood for the rest of this week and next week.
