When officers spotted Elias D. Clark Saturday evening, he was in a vehicle that had been reported as stolen, Columbus police reports state.
After a car chase that led to a wreck, the 28-year-old now faces several theft charges as he waits for his first court appearance Monday.
Clark was seen around 7:30 p.m. in a 1991 Ford Mustang near Armour Road and Sidney Simmons Boulevard. The car had been reported as stolen, and officers discovered that Clark had several outstanding warrants, police said.
When officers tried to stop the car, Clark fled. The pursuit went to Manchester Expressway and Woodruff Road, where Clark was in an accident, reports show.
Clark faces nine counts of falsifying documents, 11 counts of theft by taking motor vehicle, two counts of theft by deception and one count each of theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude, driving while license suspended and improper turn signal.
