The Muscogee County School District and the Columbus Department of Public Health are partnering to offer free H1N1 vaccinations to all Muscogee County elementary students.
The school district will hold a special vaccination event on Saturday, Jan. 30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Columbus Department of Public Health on Comer Avenue. The vaccine is optional, but is being offered to parents at no cost.
The school district posted a notice about the event on their Web site, along with a consent form for parents to fill out. Consent forms must be returned to the child's teacher by Jan. 14, so that the health department can ensure that they have adequate amounts of the vaccine on hand at the event.
Children under the age of 10 will need two doses of vaccine spaced about 4 weeks apart. Parents are welcome to bring children of other age groups to the event as well, so they can receive the vaccine. Parents must accompany their children to the event.
