The Fort Benning community has a new tax center.
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the center was held Wednesday morning at its home in the refurbished Brown Hall, Building 328, 7250 Ingersoll Street.
“This facility provides free tax preparation services for soldiers, retirees and eligible family members,” said Tax Officer in Charge Capt. Caitlin Chiaramonte. “We have a brand new building this year which I feel was a necessity as our old building was, we were really growing.”
Last year, the tax center assisted more than 6,500 eligible clients and prepared more than 4,500 tax returns, saving soldiers, family members and retirees more than $610,000 in preparations fees. Refunds totaled more than $6 million.
