Command Sgt. Maj. Earl Rice, the Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Benning command sergeant major, was selected Feb. 3 to be the top enlisted soldier of the 18th Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, NC, according to the post's public affairs office.
Rice's replacement has not yet been named.
Rice will serve as Lt. Gen. Frank Helmick’s senior enlisted adviser, replacing Command Sgt. Maj. Joseph R. Allen, who has been stationed at Fort Bragg since 2005.
The 18th Airborne Corps’ mission is to be a strategic crisis response force, manned and trained to deploy rapidly by air, sea and land anywhere in the world and prepared to fight upon arrival and win. Rice arrived at Fort Benning in May from Vicenza, Italy, where he served as the Southern European Task Force command sergeant major.
His 29-year career includes assignments to several Fort Bragg, N.C., units, including the 82nd Airborne Division and XVIII Airborne Corps Noncommissioned Officer Academy. Other assignments include 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry (Mechanized), Korea, and 1st ROTC Region, Chapel Hill, N.C.
A change of responsibility ceremony will be announced in the near future.
