Aflac executive Paul Amos II has purchased the Green Island Hills mansion once owned by Bill Heard Jr., Amos confirmed Wednesday.
The home was purchased out of foreclosure from Columbus Bank & Trust Co. The deal was closed Monday.
Amos declined to discuss the purchase price or any other details. The deed has not been filed with the Superior Court clerk’s office.
It is believed the purchase price was about $4 million, according to unnamed sources familiar with the transaction.
That is a far cry from the more than $17 million Heard was asking for the home when it went on the market as his automobile empire was crumbling in the summer of 2008.
The house at 1405 Big Eddy Court appraised for $7.886 million, according to records on file with the city of Columbus. The property taxes for 2009 on the home and surrounding property exceeded $138,000.
The house, which overlooks Lake Oliver, is more than 24,000 square feet.
CB&T foreclosed on the home 14 months ago. According to the legal advertisement that ran prior to the sell, the bank was owed $10 million on the property.
Synovus, CB&T’s parent company, has been aggressively disposing of foreclosed properties in recent months.
A Synovus spokesman did not immediately respond to an e-mail Wednesday morning.
