Many fans were confused when Matthew McConaughey handed Carrie Underwood a pair of cowboy boots during Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards 2010.
It was a reference to last year’s ACM Awards, when McConaughey presented the Entertainer of the Year honor. Before handing out the award, he told a story about when he and his brother tried to woo a group of women by saying they made George Strait’s boots.
“We got lucky that night,” McConaughey said.
Then, when McConaughey gave the 2009 Entertainer of the Year award to Underwood, she was surprised and flustered during her acceptance speech.
She stammered, “I want to see those boots, Matthew.”
McConaughey's partner, Camila Alves, might not have been too thrilled about the comment. Underwood later apologized for the line.
She jokingly took the boots from McConaughey a year later on Sunday night’s show and avoided all footwear references while accepting her second Entertainer of the Year award.
McConaughey wasn't as tame. While presenting an award Sunday, he discussed conceiving a child after last year's ACMs.
