LAGRANGE, Ga. — Franklin Forest Elementary School will host its fourth annual Footin' for Fine Arts 5K on Saturday.
The annual event raises funds for the school's fine arts program.
Amy Diefendorf, a counselor at the school and organizer of the event, said it's a different approach to fundraising. Rather than sell wrapping paper or candy, she said, the school holds the race. Diefendorf said it's a great activity for families that supports a good cause.
"Because we value the arts and we value art instruction for our children, it's important for our child to fund art and music," she said.
Never miss a local story.
The event includes a 5K and a one mile race. Diefendorf is expecting a crowd of about 200 people.
"It's usually a mixture of local runners in the local area, not just LaGrange, we have people from Columbus and Pine Mountain," she said, adding the one mile race is typically comprised of school children.
The event, which is held in Granger park, will begin at 7 a.m.
"It's good family fun. It's a great physical activity and it goes to a worthwhile cause," Diefendorf said. "It's good for the body and good for the school too, and good for kids."
