The 14th annual Arts in the Park, sponsored by the Weracoba/St. Elmo Preservation Society, will be noon-6 p.m. May 16 in the area surrounding the Weracoba/Lakebottom Park Bandshell.
At the turn of the last century, this area was actually a lake, and Columbus residents used to spend Sunday afternoons there, often for afternoon concerts and picnics.
The Weracoba/Lakebottom/Wildwood/St. Elmo Historic District is also called the Park District.
As usual, there will be plenty of art by local and area artists and performances by local musicians. Performers include the Just-Us Bluegrass Band, the Bob Barr Community Band and Carson Hand.
Never miss a local story.
It's also a family event with lots of activities for children, including arts and crafts by the Imagine Art Studio, face painting by the Columbus State University Rankin Arts Center, the Candlestick Clowns of Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church, the Springer Theater Academy Stilt-Walking team, pony rides, fish-til-you win fish pond and a puppet show.
Festival goers may bring blankets and lawn chairs to sit on and picnic baskets to spend the day at the park. Don't want to cook? Local vendors will provide food for sale.
Admission is free.
