Local schools will honor students who have received academic scholarships at the first annual National Signing Day for Scholars at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 3 at the Columbus Civic Center.
Seniors from public and private schools will be recognized and total scholarships offers will be featured at a ceremonial signing.
Frank Brown, the former president of Columbus State University, thought of the idea to honor students who excel at academics.
“Each year colleges and universities across this nation shower our best and brightest students with impressive scholarship awards, hoping to entice them to study on those college campuses,” Brown said in a press release. “It is fitting that we call attention to this clear evidence of the high regard in which our students are held across America. We hope to establish this annual opportunity for our community to honor these outstanding seniors who have achieved academic excellence.”
