Approximately 150 soldiers with the 598th Maintenance Company will deploy today from Fort Benning.
The troops will say farewell to friends and family from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the unit's company area before boarding buses that will carry them to Lawson Army Airfield. From there they will be Afghanistan-bound.
The 598th is a maintenance company and will provide direct support maintenance and vehicle recovery support during the yearlong deployment.
The unit was last deployed to Iraq from February 2007 to April 2008, and was also deployed in 2005.

The 598th is an element of the 13th Combat Support Sustainment Battalion.
Approximately 80 Fort Benning soldiers with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 13th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion departed April 12 for a yearlong deployment to Iraq.
Over the next few months, the remainder of the battalion will deploy to Afghanistan with the mission of supplying personnel, general supplies, bulk fuel, maintenance, water, laundry and bath, and transportation support.
