So maybe Crystal Bowersox won't win season nine of "American Idol" after all.
When the top five "Idol" contestants performed Frank Sinatra songs Tuesday night, Bowersox's version of "Summer Wind" fell somewhere in the middle of the pack.
Topping Crystal? Rocker Lee DeWyze, who seems to be slowly overtaking her front-runner spot -- at least in the judges' eyes. After he performed "That's Life," the four-member panel told him he could win the competition.
Surprisingly, Michael "Big Mike" Lynche also delivered a strong performance. His take on "The Way You Look Tonight" was suave enough to suggest he might last another week. That's bad news for fans who think he's all cheese and no substance.
Never miss a local story.
Who's in trouble this week? Aaron Kelly's rendition of "Fly Me to the Moon" didn't have many vocal flaws, but it lacked personality. The dreaded first-singer spot didn't do him any favors, either.
But by far, Casey James was the night's worst singer. Without his guitar, he nervously navigated Sinatra's "Blue Skies." It was stiff and off-key, not the best move for a guy who narrowly escaped elimination last week. The performance was so bad that Vote for the Worst abandoned Big Mike after the show and instead rooted for Casey.
Harry Connick Jr. not only mentored the contestants this week, but also arranged their songs and accompanied them on stage.
