Although the L.A. Lakers are currently playing the NBA playoffs, the Internet is abuzz with a different project involving Kobe Bryant: an L.A. Times Magazine photo shoot.
The photos that accompany the basketball star's profile show Bryant in all white, including shots in a high-collared button up shirt and bow tie and with a scarf draped over his head.
There has been such a divisive response to the photos that the stylist, James Valeri, sat down with an L.A. Times Lakers blogger to explain what he was trying to achieve with each look.
"The concept was about shooting everything in white. That was Ruven's idea [photographer Ruven Afanador]. But I wanted to do something more modern and less conventional and less cliched. ... It's a more modern silhouette. It's not like, 'Let's just put Kobe in a pair of pants and a shirt or in a suit.' The clothing is all layered," Valeri told the blogger.
