Brookstone beat Washington-Wilkes 8-4 in the first game of its best-of-three second-round series in the Class A baseball tournament.
The Cougars (20-7) scored four times in the sixth to break a 4-all tie. Shawn Thomas scored on a single by Johnny Carter, who rounded the bases thanks to two Tigers throwing errors. Will Braxton added a two-run double.
Brewer Carter and Chad Sheppard had two hits apiece for Brookstone.
Milton McCluskey earned the win for the Cougars, giving up four runs on seven hits in six innings.
D.J. Barrett went 2-for-4 for Washington-Wilkes with a solo home run.
The second game of today's doubleheader starts at approximately 4:20 p.m.
