Vance Smith, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation, was honored recently by the Chattahoochee Council of Boy Scouts. He was given the Distinguished Citizen Award.
The award, given since 1981, recognizes the top community leaders who have reflected the values of the Boy Scouts by their outstanding community service.
Past winners include Judge Aaron Cohn, Jack Pezold, John B. Amos, William Turner and Howard "Bo" Callaway.
Smith was honored at a banquet at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.
