The Troup County Sheriff's Office is reminding to drivers to stop texting while navigating state roadways because beginning July 1 it is against the law.
Sgt. Chad Mann, of the Troup County Sheriff's office, sent out information reminding area residents the state's new law goes into effect July 1.
Mann stated the law prohibits drivers from operating their car on any public roadway while using "a wireless telecommunications device to write, send, or read any text based communication, including but not limited to a text message, instant message, electronic mail, or Internet data."
He also noted the new law also bans drivers 18 years old and younger from using a "wireless communication device" while operating a vehicle.
