Chad Starling, the 19-year-old driving the car in which Joseph Grant Laverty was riding when it wrecked, was charged this afternoon with first-degree vehicular homicide, police said.
Starling was charged with the felony offense as well as driving while license suspended, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, racing on a highway, duty to report accident, failure to render aid, no proof of insurance, no state tag and improper use of license plate, said Lt. Mark D. Starling, who is of no relation.
Megan Margarum, 17, was given traffic citations this morning for speeding, racing on a highway and reckless driving, the lieutenant added.
Starling, driving a 2000 Honda Civic, collided with a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe Saturday night on Mobley Road, reports state. Laverty, 17, died Monday morning, authorities said.
