Counselors will be available to Callaway High School students and staff as they mourn the loss of student Quadrez Truitt and his brother Chris Truitt, who was a former Callaway student.
The two brothers died Thursday when their car went off the road and collided with a telephone pole, no other vehicles were involved. Christopher Truitt, 20, was driving and Quadrez Truitt, 17, was the front seat passenger when the car went off Hammett Road around 11:30 a.m.
Callaway High School student Scottie Hixson, who was also in the car, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at West Georgia Medical Center, according to a press release from Troup County Schools.
The release also stated the system would have a trained team of counselors in place. The crisis team will also be available after the school year is complete.
"This is a loss for the entire Callaway High School family," Callaway Principal Kevin Jones said the statement. "Quadrez was a great student and a wonderful kid. Everyone enjoyed having him around. Chris was one of my favorite students of all time. He played varsity basketball here and was a really good kid. We want to avail ourselves to the family and extend our sincere condolences."
