Columbus beat Thomson 8-4 in Game 3 of their GHSA Class AAA state semifinal series.
The Blue Devils will be trying for 10th state baseball championship when they host Ringgold. The series is slated to start Friday, but both schools have graduation that day, so the start of the series could be moved.
Rain has forced a delay in Game 3 of the Columbus-Thomson series. The delay began at 4:08 as the first Columbus batter of the bottom of the sixth was at the plate with a 3-0 count.
J.T. Phillips knocked in two runs with a single as part of a three-run fifth inning. Columbus now leads Thomson 7-1 in Game 3 of their semifinal series at Randy Jordan Field.

Columbus scored three runs — two on sacrifice flies and one on a Brad Barto single — in the bottom of the third inning and leads Thomson 4-1.
Thomson loaded the bases and scored a run in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1.
Kyle Carter hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning to give Columbus a 1-0 lead.
Neither team scored in the second or fourth.
Columbus is starting Charles Sheffield on the mound. Thomson has brought back Game 1 starter Abe Carledge.
Columbus center fielder Bobby Andrews, who suffered a concussion Monday in Game 1 when he ran into the wall trying to catch a fly ball, is in the starting lineup for the Blue Devils.
