When Christina Perri performed "Jar of Hearts" Thursday night on "So You Think You Can Dance," many fans wanted to learn more about the singer.
It wasn't the first time "SYTYCD" fans heard "Jar of Hearts."
Viewers heard the song on the June 30 episode of "SYTYCD," when Billy Bell and all-star Kathryn McCormick performed a Stacey Tookey contemporary routine. After that, singer Christina Perri's fan base significantly expanded and she generated many Internet searches.
Perri was born and raised in Philadelphia. "Christina Perri has the voice of a oversized black woman in the body of a skinny, tattoo covered, hopeless romantic," according to her MySpace page.
Never miss a local story.
She cites influences like Fiona Apple and Coldplay. Perri's brother Nick is a former member of rock act Shinedown.
Perri was featured in a Cricket Wireless commercial, according to her MySpace page.
Perri tells the story of "Jar of Hearts" on her blog.
She writes, "i wrote the song after i went home to philadelphia for the holiday last december. i sat in my childhood bedroom and hid from the boy (with the jar of hearts) who wanted to see me. my heart wanted to see him, my head knew better. i couldnt take one more break so i wrote the song instead."
