Columbus authorities continued their search for witnesses on Sunday in the city’s latest homicide investigation, police said.
Officers found Diane Patricia Norman, 49, lying on Garden Drive early Saturday with a gunshot wound to her back after a passing motorist spotted the body. Preliminary reports indicate the gunshot wound is the cause of death, said Muscogee County Coroner Bill Thrower.
Lt. Lynn Joiner said the case is being pursued by detectives, who worked through Saturday night and into early Sunday morning knocking on doors and searching for witnesses.
“They’re trying to see if anybody knows anything,” Joiner added.
No motive for the shooting has yet been found, the lieutenant said.
Norman’s body was sent to the crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy. The results should be available Monday, Deputy Coroner Charles Newton said.
