Emergency dispatchers said no serious wrecks or damage came with the storm that passed through the Columbus area this evening.
As of 6:30 p.m., there were a few wrecks but nothing serious. Power appears to have blinked out for some time at Victory and Benning drives, though the traffic lights are now flashing at the intersection, a dispatcher said.
Columbus Fire & EMS Battalion Chief Les Talley said the storm set off some alarms, though for the most part only much needed rain came through the area. “As far as I know, we haven’t had anything really bad,” he added.
Robert Watkins, with Georgia Power, said 391 customers off of Victory Drive had lost power, though he expected it would be restored by 10 p.m. Watkins had no reports of downed power lines.
Phenix City dispatchers also said they had no serious wrecks. They have received reports of power loss on Summerville Road.
