Unofficial returns from Columbus today show that locally Republican Karen Handel got more votes to be the party's gubernatorial nominee, and Democrat Georganna Sinkfield got the most votes to be that party's nominee for Georgia Secretary of State.
The latter was the only race in today's Democratic Primary runoff. The Republicans had four races on the ballot, the most heated of which was the one between Handel and Nathan Deal.
Here are the tallies yet to be certified by the local elections board:
Governor – Republican: Nathan Deal 1,922 votes, 37.42 percent; Karen Handel 3,214 votes, 62.58 percent.
Secretary of State – Democrat: Gail Buckner 783 votes, 34.30 percent; Georganna Sinkfield 1,500 votes, 65.70 percent.
Attorney General – Republican: Sam Olens 1,975 votes, 44.03 percent; Preston W. Smith 2,511 votes, 55.97 percent.
Insurance Commissioner – Republican: Ralph T. Hudgens 2,252 votes, 48.97 percent; Maria Sheffield 2,347 votes, 51.03 percent.
Public Service Commission, Republican: John Douglas 2,401 votes, 56.59 percent; Tim Echols 1,842 votes, 43.41 percent.
