A Seale, Ala., motorcyclist in a three-vehicle wreck Saturday afternoon has died, authorities said.
Tommy Odom, 50, was driving one of three vehicles in the wreck on Interstate 85 in Auburn, Ala. He and another motorcyclist were driving north on the interstate around 12:45 p.m. CDT as they reached a vehicle stopped in the emergency lane of the northbound side, said Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.
As the two motorcycles neared the vehicle, it pulled onto the roadway, leading both motorcycles to collide with it, the coroner added.
“They were ejected from the motorcycles and landed in the highway,” Harris said in a release. “The driver of the automobile continued through the median, across both lanes of southbound traffic and ended up in the tree line of the southbound side of I-85.”
Odom was airlifted to Columbus while the other motorcyclist and the driver of the vehicle were taken by an ambulance to the East Alabama Medical Center. Both are believed to have been treated and released, Harris said.
Odom suffered several injuries. He was pronounced dead at 5:37 a.m. Sunday in Columbus, the coroner added.
The incident remains under investigation, authorities said.
