Three recent Troup County graduates were awarded the first Sewon America scholarships this week.
Sewon America, established in LaGrange in 2008, is a major supplier to Kia and Hyundai. The Sewon America Scholarship Award is part of the company’s support of area schools and is given in honor of the company’s chairman Moon Ki Kim.
Funding for the scholarship is in place for the next seven years.This year's recipients are: Tanner Thompson of Callaway High School, Stephen Callaghan of LaGrange High School and James Rensenhouse of Troup High School.
Students were presented with the award at Sewon's LaGrange plant. Students also received a tour of the production floor.
"We are pleased to support education in Troup County,” Andy Kim, president of Sewon America, said in a press release. "Those with a strong educational background are able to find solutions faster, making them more competitive in the workplace. Sewon is proud to be part of this success."
