A Columbus woman is in the hospital after someone struck her in the head with a hammer early Sunday, police report.
According to Lt. Lynn Joiner, officers responded to Lawyers Lane around 4:10 a.m. Initially reported as a sexual assault, the officers instead found a 24-year-old woman suffering from head injuries.
Reports state the woman was struck in the head with a hammer and that she has several severe head injuries.
An ambulance took her to The Medical Center, where reports list her in life threatening condition.
No suspects or arrests have been made, Joiner said. The case remains under investigation.
