Phenix City police were called out to an accident involving a tractor-trailer this morning on U.S. Highway 431.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. in the southbound lane, near the Oglethorpe Bridge. An 18-wheeler was merging onto U.S. 431 from U.S. 280 when it turned over, said Capt. Jim Hart.
"The truck came down the ramp at a speed he was not able to account for," Hart said. "The weight of the truck caused it to topple over."
The truck's driver was taken to The Medical Center. His condition is unknown, the captain said.
Never miss a local story.
The overturned truck has forced southbound traffic on U.S. 431 to be rerouted onto U.S. 280. Hart doesn't yet know when traffic will resume to normal.
