With 6 out of 6 precincts reporting, Beth Harris is leading over Brinkley Pound for the District 8 seat on the Muscogee County School Board.
According to unofficial numbers compiled by the Ledger-Enquirer, Harris has 1413 votes and Pound has 1181 votes. However, ballots from early voting still need to be counted.
Pound and Harris are both former educators.
Reached by phone at Josh McKoon's victory celebration Tuesday night, Harris said she campaigned the old-fashioned way -- lots of phone calls.
Harris said she got a list of all the registered voters in her district and started calling people.
"I called and called and called," she said.
She also appeared at several forums, did some knocking on doors and created flyers for her campaign. Total, she said she spent less than $1,000 on campaigning, including the $360 qualifying fee.
Harris said she wasn't ready to start celebrating yet, since early votes were still out, but she was excited.
"I feel very confident," she said.
